Analysis of research and tourism development in Colombia [Analisis de la investigación y desarrollo turistico en Colombia]

Abstract

This paper describes the behavior of scientific research in tourism of Colombia in the past seven years (2007-2013), analyzes variables such as: number of publications, university affiliation, studied destinations, theoretical and empirical contributions. It also analyzes the evolution of the sector in recent years. The findings demonstrate a significant development of the sector in recent years, although a loss of tourism competitiveness was observed and a growth trend in the number of published studies, especially in the last two years, although the university affiliations show that the vast majority of authors are from foreign universities.
