Resumen

Descripción

This article analyzes the competitiveness of the livestock industry in Ozuluama de Mascareñas, Veracruz, Mexico, by applying Lafuente, Szerb, and Rideg’s (2016) systemic index based on the resource-based view (VBR) of the firm. The model incorporates a penalty function to correct for the influence of bottlenecks and uses 46 variables grouped into 10 pillars. The competitiveness index results, ranging from 6.53 to 6.89, indicate a medium-high performance level. The study identified strengths in competitive strategy, technological adoption, online presence, and marketing. However, the human capital pillar was identified as a structural weakness common to all analyzed companies, suggesting the need to strengthen internal capabilities through training, talent retention, and business network integration. The study concludes that competitiveness in this sector depends on qualified human resources and a dynamic, interconnected organizational environment. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
