This project explores the use of shipping containers as an innovative alternative for the sustainable design of residential, commercial, and office spaces, focusing on how their versatility and modular characteristics can optimize their use in the environment and the available resources. The main objective is to propose a set of guidelines and strategies to help designers and architects create efficient, functional, and sustainable spaces, taking advantage of the structural characteristics of containers. Throughout this research, a conceptual tool called “Heuristic Box” was developed, which synthesizes design principles based on previous experiences in rules that facilitate decision-making aimed at a better design of living spaces. This tool allows for maximizing the use of containers in architectural projects, addressing not only construction aspects, but also the integration of environmental, social, and economic criteria that promote the creative reuse of these elements. The project presents a practical set of heuristic rules and recommendations for the responsible reuse of containers, considering both their environmental impact and capacity to respond to contemporary design demands. The proposed holistic approach seeks to inspire future developers and design professionals to explore container possibilities, transforming them into key elements for modern and sustainable architecture.
