Resumen
This research studies the subjective distress young people experience having a self- perceived sense of unattractiveness and residing within the geographical boundaries of the Aburrá Valley in Colombia. This research delves into the psychological and emotional implications of this phenomenon, to shed light on its prevalence and potential impact on these individuals’ overall well-being. Employing a qualitative method approach, this study comprehensively explores the complex interplay between self-perceived unattractiveness, sociocultural factors, and mental health outcomes. The findings of this study contribute to a better understanding of the psychosocial dynamics within this specific population and can inform the development of targeted interventions to mitigate the negative impact of self-perceived unattractiveness on individuals’ subjective well-being. In conclusion, experiences lead to disorders such as anorexia, depression, and anxiety. Participants employed defensive strategies, such as body care, avoidant behaviors, and humor. This study highlights the relationship between body dissatisfaction, low self-esteem, and eating disorders. The contribution of this work is fundamental for future interventions in psychology, focusing on a self-perception of ugliness.
