Training in citizenship implies redefining education as a tool for the essential transformation of culture, through the cultivation of values, knowledge and skills that contribute to the integral formation of the student. The objective of this research is to contribute to the development of citizenship competencies of students of 10th and 11th grade of the Juan María Céspedes Educational Institution and the Training Center of Antioquia (CEFA), official schools of the municipality of Medellín, through the writing of texts argumentative Twenty-four students participated, using a qualitative design with a critical social approach, whose information tools were field diaries and the cards made by the students. As a result, it was possible to visualize the need to generate spaces for dialogue, as well as pedagogical and didactic strategies focused on teaching civic education within the school context. The argumentative writings allow to specify the positions of the students in front of the realities of their environment.
