The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of the use of reading discontinuous texts for the promotion of the competence of inquiry in Natural Sciences in grade 6 of the educational institution Antonio Abad Hinestroza Mena De Atrato -Yuto. Colombia. The students who participated were 30 in their totality, enrolled in 2021 in the Educational Institution Antonio Abad Hinestroza Mena of the municipality of Atrato, department of Chocó. A pretest was applied to find out the initial level of inquiry competence in the students, the results of this pre-test showed a very significant low level in this competence; then a treatment was applied with strategies of reading discontinuous texts, at the end a post-test was applied, where it was evidenced that the students strengthened the inquiry competence by observing in the students the ability to read this kind of texts, showing the effectiveness of the use of discontinuous texts for the promotion of the inquiry competence. This study reveals the great importance of discontinuous texts in the inquiry competence and how they can affect the knowledge tests in the area of natural sciences. This study shows the great effectiveness of discontinuous texts in fostering inquiry competence in the area of natural sciences.
