Resumen
"Emotional education as a didactic strategy seeks to develop in students the generation of positive emotions and personal well-being in order to improve different aspects of their lives, contributing to a better school coexistence. The objective of the research was to determine the influence of an emotional education strategy on three dimensions of Emotional Competencies (Perception, Understanding and Regulation), and three dimensions of Citizen Competencies (Coexistence and Peace, Participation and Democratic Responsibility, Plurality and Identity), of sixth grade students. The Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS24) and a citizen competency test were applied to 156 students in two public institutions of Medellín. It was an investigation with quantitative approach with quasi-experimental design, pre-test and post-test measurements and control group. The differences between the pre and post-test scores of the Emotional Competencies and Citizen Competencies were compared. The results of the control and experimental group showed different averages in the three dimensions of Emotional Competences and Citizen Competencies, but these differences are not significant, that is, the ""Educar las emociones"" strategy did not originate significant changes. It is concluded that although the differences were not statistically significant, there were changes in both competences, with the experimental group having better scores than the control, it could be said that emotional education is a strategy that strengthens life skills; for that reason its inclusion in the academic curricula would guarantee the continuity of the formative process in the line of the emotional education and would assure an active participation on the part of the educative community."
