El potencial educativo del autorretrato fotográfico para fomentar cultura de paz : El caso de los estudiantes de programas de comunicaciones en el Instituto Metropolitano de Educación durante el primer semestre del 2017

Abstract

In the actual Colombian context, it is necessary to think about strategies that allow education in peace culture, because we are facing the challenges that come with the post agreement with the FARC guerilla, and a possible agreement with ELN guerrilla. In this sense, there are some experiences around the world that have had education for peace culture as a purpose, but it's been identified that most of them have used traditional strategies such as master classes, discussions and reflections. Taking into count the previous ideas, in this research, the purpose was to analyze the educational potential of the photographic selfportrait to promote peace culture, because there are experiences such as the ones described by anthropologist Wendy Ewald, with results that can be related to peace culture. In this research, an experience with the photographic self- portrait was analyzed at Instituto Metrpolitano de Educación, a technical instruction institution located in Medellín city, finding that the educative potential of this tool, in the chosen context, unfolds in the expression of feelings and sensations, the strengthening of a healthy human-living together, self recognition, creativity and visual literacy, characteristics that allowed to raise awareness about the relations of the students with themselves and with others. On the other hand, it was identified that the reinterpretation of the family photo album, is an attractive photographic exercise for students, and it becomes a way to share about the past and the future, involving also other people, contributing to teamwork. Finally, the photographic self-portrait can be used with diverse publics, and it is recommended inside processes that want to raise awareness of values related to peace culture.
