Abstract

The use of the internet, including social networks such as Facebook in particular, should be contextualized in an atmosphere that reflects a globalized environment, not only in the field of economics but also in that of culture and politics. This atmosphere must enable people to confront the new challenges that society imposes: to create human beings trained in integrated competences that are capable of producing collective projects, or as quoted by Lévy, to create a public of “cybercitizens”. The following work reports the search for the “Possible contributions of the social network Facebook to the formation of participation competences and democratic responsibility, based on perceptions study in 11th grade students of the Institute San Carlos in the city of Medellin.
