This study of quantitative approach and type investigation action (IA) had as purpose to strengthen the pedagogical strategies for the improvement of the reading comprehension and its incidence in the resolution of mathematical problems of the sixth grade students of the educational institution Pedro Grau y Arola de Quibdó-Chocó. For the achievement of the objective the research group evaluated 41 students of both sexes whose ages ranged between 10 and 16 years, applying a standardized test (tests know 5th) on reading comprehension and solving mathematical problems before and after the application of a sequence of pedagogical strategies. The analysis of the results showed that the approach and implementation of striking pedagogical strategies for students allows them to change and assume knowledge in a different way and improve the interaction they have with texts of different types. Likewise, it was demonstrated that the improvement of reading comprehension has a significant influence on the way in which students solve mathematical problems since in order to reach the solution they must first know it, become familiar with the situation and try to understand it, that is, at a lower understanding of the mathematical statement less ability to solve it.
