Resumen
A significant portion of academic literature relates infidelity with men’s behavior, as being unfaithful implies engaging in sexual or emotional relationships with someone other than their partner, thereby risking their primary relationship. This has led to differential reflections on the behaviors exhibited by both men and women. In contemporary contexts, infidelity manifests in ways that contradict gender stereotypes. This study aims to understand women’s experiences in cheating, in order to contrast these with existing prejudices. To achieve this, in-depth interviews were conducted with 16 women from the city of Manizales, aged between 20 and 40. Their narratives were analyzed using thematic analysis, following Max Van Manen’s method. The study revealed some gender openness in the practice of infidelity, typical of today’s context. This practice is experienced by women through social, cultural, and psychological aspects that must be considered to fully understand their experience.
