Resumen

"This is an investigation carried out with parents and students of El Llano Rural Educational Center, headquarters of the Educational Institution La Milagrosa, of the municipality of Abriaquí, department of Antioquia, Republic of Colombia in 2016. With these parents, the strategy was implemented ""School of parents"", in which surveys and a series of workshops focused on three fundamental axes were carried out: the family, the family and school relationship and the formation of reading families; all in order to strengthen reading skills in parents and children of the institution. The document presents the general aspects of the concept of family and its social, economic and educational influence against the reading habits of its members; it also describes the important aspects to take into account in family and school relationships; as well as guidelines for families to work from home reading skills and strengthening them. At the end the general conclusions are given on the scope achieved with this strategy, demonstrating the relevance of training parents to encourage reading from home and thus improve the academic performance of their children, especially in the area of language and the reader aspect."
